Northwest Bike Shop opened in 1998 and still going strong

Our Story

When Jacob Jacobson opened the shop in 1988, there was a great need for a bike shop in Seattle. With one employee, who still works here today, Jacob began a legacy of focusing on getting the best bicycles, products, and service to the people who walked in the front door. What followed was a steady expansion in the size of the shop over the first few years, and continued improvement over the years of serving two-wheeled enthusiasts.

In 1988, mountain bikes were rigid frames with rigid forks and 26" tires about 2" wide. Road bikes back then had 5-speed freewheels, down-tube shift levers, and 27" wheels. Needless to say, that has practically all changed. The shop's growth has coincided with the expansion and refinement of both styles of bicycle and witnessed the development of many niche bikes.

First, it was suspension forks on mountain bikes, and then full-suspension models came out. Road bikes were the first to adopt cassette hubs over freewheels, and it has been an arms race to get the highest number of gears ever since. Most recently we have seen the development of niche bikes; like downhill and enduro mountain bikes, endurance road bikes, and gravel grinders. These days there is a bike for every purpose - it is really an exciting time to pursue two-wheeled recreation.

The shop is a family-friendly place that provides bike services for every size and type of bike.  Stop on by and say hi.

What Our Fans Say

I'd like to make a kind word about one of your employees: Daniel, a mechanic at your Reston store.
I brought my Trek bike in to get the brakes adjusted. Not only did Daniel see me right away, but also he went above-and-beyond in checking out the bike. He adjusted the brakes, but he also went ahead and adjusted the derailleur when he found it faulty. He also wiped excess lube off my chain (which was my fault) and he wiped and polished the bike. I was stunned at the great service I was getting because, as you probably know, great service isn't common nowadays.  Daniel was also useful in suggesting new lube that I should use instead of my old one.
I imagine the only time people e-mail you about mechanics is when something goes wrong, so I wanted to let you know that one of yours is doing something right. Kudos to Daniel.

Great place to purchase and have services performed! The staff is very knowledgeable! The only shop I trust to work on my fleet of bikes. 🙂

The staff is absolutely amazing! I bought my first bike from here. I walked in a little hesitant, but within minutes the very knowledgeable and friendly sales rep helped me find a bike for my needs. After a long day of going from bike shop to bike shop it was refreshing to come into a parlor where they had women’s bikes in colors other than pink and purple. They have a spacious parking lot right behind their store with little to no traffic that facilitates test rides. When she was about to ring me up, my friend jokingly asked if we qualified for any discounts and she instantly saved us $70. I highly recommend The Bike Shop.

Thanks to all at The Bike Shop for taking care of the many mechanicals my team encountered while on a training trip in Temecula. We really appreciated The Bike Shop’s same day service which got our bikes up and running for the next day’s ride. Prices are beyond reasonable and staff is extremely friendly.
